Made to measure

Software for things that don't exist yet.

When every unit is made to a customer's measurements, there is no SKU to sell and no price to look up. That one difference breaks most business software — and it's the problem BUZ has been built around since 1983.

Where generic software breaks

Every one of these is survivable on its own. Together they are why made-to-measure businesses end up running on spreadsheets nobody dares touch.

01

There is no SKU to sell

Generic systems price a product you already stock. A made-to-measure job has no part number until someone measures the opening — every unit is priced from dimensions, materials, options and rules at the moment of quoting.

02

The price is a calculation, not a lookup

Width times drop is only the start. Fabric width and railroading, pattern repeat, component and control choices, minimum charges, wastage, and price grids that step by size — a spreadsheet handles this until the day someone copies the wrong row.

03

Options collide with each other

Some combinations cost more. Some are physically impossible. Software that lets a salesperson sell a combination the factory cannot build turns a margin into a remake.

04

The factory needs different paper to the customer

The customer sees a quote. The workshop needs cut sizes, components, and a run it can be scheduled into. Re-typing the job to produce that is where the errors get in.

05

The job is not finished when it ships

It is finished when it is installed, signed off and paid. Systems that stop at the invoice leave scheduling, installation and sign-off to a whiteboard and a group chat.

What made-to-measure software has to do

Configure-price-quote on custom products

Price from dimensions and options, with rules that stop impossible combinations before they are sold.

Your own pricing, under your control

Price grids, discount structures and supplier costs you can change yourself when a supplier raises prices — without raising a ticket.

Quote to order without re-keying

An accepted quote becomes a job carrying every option and measurement with it.

Production that reflects your floor

Work orders, cut sheets, runs and stages that match how you actually make things, not a generic assembly line.

Dispatch and installation

Runs planned by capacity and region, with photos and sign-off captured on site.

Accounting that reconciles

Invoices, deposits and payments flowing to your accounting package without double entry.

Where BUZ fits

BUZ is deepest in window furnishings — blinds, curtains, shutters, awnings and external screens. Four decades of building for that trade is why the fabric calculations, option rules and factory workflows already know what you mean.

The same engine prices any product built from dimensions, materials and options, and businesses outside window furnishings do run on BUZ. If that's you, the honest way to find out is to show us two or three of your real products on a call — we'd rather tell you it isn't a fit than sell you a system you have to fight.

Common questions

What is made-to-measure software?

Business software for companies that manufacture to a customer's dimensions rather than selling from stock. The defining feature is configure-price-quote: the price is calculated from measurements, materials and options at the point of quoting, because the product does not exist until it is ordered. Good made-to-measure software then carries that same job through production, dispatch, installation and invoicing without anyone re-typing it.

Why doesn't generic ERP or CRM handle made-to-measure?

Because they assume a catalogue. A generic system prices a SKU you already hold, so made-to-measure pricing has to be bolted on with custom fields, spreadsheets or a configurator that does not talk to production. It can be made to work, but it is expensive to configure and fragile to change — and the change comes every time a supplier updates a price list.

What kinds of products does BUZ handle?

BUZ is deepest in window furnishings — blinds, curtains, shutters, awnings and external screens — which is what it has been built for since 1983. The same engine handles other made-to-order products priced by dimensions, materials and options, and businesses outside window furnishings do run on it. If you are in another trade, the honest answer is to show us a couple of your real products and we will tell you straight whether BUZ fits.

Is this the same as window coverings software?

Window furnishings and window coverings are two names for the same industry, and both are made-to-measure. Made-to-measure is the wider category — it takes in any product manufactured to a customer's dimensions. If you make blinds, shutters, curtains or awnings, start with our window furnishings pages; they go into more detail on your trade.
